The Wings for Autism


The Wings for Autism® program is designed as an opportunity to provide children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities to have a “practice” opportunity to experience the sometimes challenging aspects of airline travel at an airport – parking and shuttling to the terminal, check-in, security, boarding the aircraft and interacting with airport personnel — to help ease potential stresses that the airport experience can cause with help from our partners BWI AirportUnited AirlinesAirmallMaryland Department of Transportation and the Transit Security Administration.

Want to participate?

Space is limited so consider carefully before you commit. Here are the essentials you need to know:

Who: One child or adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or intellectual and developmental
Disabilities, and up to two family members or companions. (Only one family member can board the plane)

Schedule: Arrive at airport at 3 pm. Detailed schedule to follow.

Need: Photo ID is needed for any participant over age 18. Bring luggage to mimic the real experience.

Other: The Arc staff and many airport volunteers will be there to guide and assist you along the way.

Registration: Registration opens on 12/13/17 at 9 am. It is first come, first serve, and fills up fast.
